South Jersey Health System, Inc. (SJHS), the parent of the South Jersey Healthcare organization, and Underwood-Memorial Health Systems, Inc. (UMHS), the parent of Underwood-Memorial Hospital and its affiliated organizations, announced today that they have signed a definitive merger agreement that will be submitted to the state and federal governments for approval. The organizations expect to receive final approval for a merger this spring.

Underwood-Memorial Hospital has been awarded a two-year, $300,000 grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) through its New Jersey Health Initiatives (NJHI). 

Barbara Roehl, MD, MBA, has been named the chief clinical integration officer for Underwood.  “In this new role, she will assist the hospital in meeting the challenges of healthcare reform and the new era of greater accountability in health care,” announces Eileen K. Cardile, president and CEO.
