Betty Mohnacs Anderson, RN-BC, CDONA/LTC, the nurse administrator for Underwood-Memorial Hospital’s Transitional Care Unit (TCU) and resident of Mantua, was chosen as Nurse of the Year for Long Term Care at the March of Dimes New Jersey Chapter’s annual dinner on Dec. 4.
Under Anderson’s leadership, the TCU has consistently achieved a five-star rating by Medicare which is promoted on its Nursing Home Compare website. Also this year, Underwood celebrated the announcement that it is the only TCU in the state to receive the Circle of Excellence Award from the National Association Directors of Nursing Administration/Long Term Care for the second straight year.
The TCU opened in 1998 to provide post-hospitalization care for adults that required skilled or rehabilitative care. In this home-like environment, the patients may receive therapy and care for conditions such as congestive health failure, chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder (COPD), diabetes, heart bypass surgery and joint replacement.
Nominated by Karen Rodemer, director of Adult Health and Geriatrics at Underwood, Anderson was chosen from among nurses working in long-term acute care, rehabilitation, long-term care, skilled nursing facilities and Veterans’ hospitals.
“Thank you, March of Dimes,” noted Anderson in her acceptance speech. “And, thank you to all who have been a part of my 30 years’ experience at Underwood-Memorial Hospital. It is a place of excellence.”
