Daily, many of our young children experience behavioral health issues that can potentially impair their ability to function well, either in the home or school environment. Locally, and nationwide, statistics demand we commit to the emotional development of our youngsters by finding new ways to help children with acute emotional and behavioral disorders.
To these children, and to their families, Underwood-Memorial Hospital makes that commitment — introducing the Children’s Behavioral Health Services Program—providing effective and appropriate treatment in a positive and supportive outpatient environment.
Providing appropriate care is what we’re all about. Childhood is a critical period of development involving significant life shaping changes. Adequate support and treatment is essential in helping relieve distress and promoting healthy coping skills. If your child is experiencing difficulty coping with life stressors, we recommend that you seek assistance and an evaluation.
Providing appropriate care to children and their families is our mission. Our children’s program staff includes a psychiatrist, licensed clinical therapists, a certified teacher and an art therapist. Together, this staff will provide compassionate assistance and therapy in dealing with:
- Depression
- Anxiety
- Angry outbursts
- Coping with loss and/or death
- Impulsivity
- The development of healthy relationships
- Suicidal thoughts
- Substance abuse education
The Children’s Behavioral Health Center will provide services similar to the intensity and scope of inpatient treatment, but with significantly less disruption to children and their families.
The Children’s Program follows an acute short-term model of intensive treatment targeted for 2-4 weeks. Additional services include the provision of lunch and transportation.
Our program is designed to offer:
- Comprehensive Assessment
- Psychiatric Interventions
- Medication Management
- Weekly Family Counseling
- Group Therapy
- Psycho-Educational Groups
- Educational Classroom
- Case Management Services
- Aftercare Planning
