Tomorrow’s needs and expectations will demand more of Underwood-Memorial in its role as a provider of high quality medical care and comprehensive clinical services.

Begun in 2004, and anticipating completion in late 2006, the hospital launched an extensive campus redevelopment initiative investing $46 million to expand and improve the Emergency Department, expand and relocate the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, and build a new medical office building to incorporate the Family Practice Center, Nursing Education and outpatient ambulatory patient services such as the Center For Sleep Medicine. The addition of a new campus parking garage with 240 parking spaces will further enhance the visitor and patient experience.

PLANNED RENOVATIONS AND IMPROVEMENTS

• 23,000 sq. ft. enhancement of the Emergency Department
• Additional parking facility
• Additional building for hospital-based outpatient services
• Relocation and expansion of the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation
• 8,600 sq. ft. enhancement of the Ambulatory Surgical Unit
• Enhanced operating rooms and technological improvements to the surgical suite
• Additional CT Scan and on-site MRI technology
• Reopening of 17 medical surgical bed unit
• Enhancements to building exterior and infrastructure

EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT IMPROVEMENTS

• Increase the number of patient care treatment areas from 23 to 40
• Increase the size of these areas
• Provide enhanced privacy throughout the Emergency Department
• Expand fast-track capabilities to improve efficiency in treatment
• Implement new, state-of-the-art clinical technology
• Build a new entrance for ambulance arrivals
• Construct a new entrance and waiting area for ambulatory patients
