about umh

Underwood-Memorial Hospital has been caring for the future ever since two dedicated and visionary physicians graduated from the Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia and settled in Gloucester County in the early days of the last century. Since J. Harris Underwood, MD and William Brewer, MD opened their respective hospitals within several blocks of one another here in Woodbury, their vision and mission has evolved into what ours is today.

To deliver superior patient care, offer advanced technology to support effective diagnostics and treatment, and develop and maintain physician relationships helping us deliver a high standard of proficient and compassionate patient care across a broad spectrum of medical disciplines.

Underwood-Memorial Hospital is a 305-licensed bed, acute-care, non-profit hospital serving Gloucester County and parts of Salem and Camden counties. Underwood-Memorial received the distinction of Accreditation with Full Standards Compliance from the Joint Commission, the nation’s oldest and largest independent accrediting body.

With over 1,800 full and part-time employees and a medical dental staff of almost 400, Underwood provides a comprehensive array of diagnostic, therapeutic and rehabilitative services in the comfort, convenience and security of a community hospital setting.
