message from the Chief Executive
Officer
Eileen K. Cardile, RN, MS, CNA
Underwood-Memorial Hospital has been caring for the future ever
since two dedicated and visionary physicians graduated from the
Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia and settled in Gloucester
County in the early days of the last century.
Since J. Harris Underwood, MD and William Brewer, MD opened their
respective hospitals within several blocks of one another here in
Woodbury, their vision and mission has evolved into what ours is
today - to deliver superior patient care, offer advanced technology
to support effective diagnostics and treatment, and develop and
maintain physician relationships helping us deliver a high standard
of proficient and compassionate patient care across a broad spectrum
of medical disciplines.
Now, several years into a new century, we have embarked on an historic
campaign to “grow” and enhance Underwood-Memorial’s
capacity to provide the high level of services to meet the needs
of a growing community. Certainly, Underwood-Memorial’s future,
like our past, is centered on our mission to provide quality services
and programs to maintain and improve the health and wellness of
the community we serve.
All of us associated with Underwood-Memorial Hospital – our
physicians and nurses, our governing board of trustees and foundation
directors, our auxilians and volunteers and certainly our employees,
over 1,800 of them, are committed and working continually to enhance
services, improve technology, and develop and manage new programs
to meet the needs and, yes, exceed the expectations of the community
we serve.
We do this to help sustain and improve our community’s quality
of life and health; not just for today but well into the years ahead.
We are privileged to be of service to you and your neighbors and
we thank you for the trust and confidence you place in us that allows
us to continue caring for your future.
