John Armando joined the Family Medicine Residency Program as Behavior Scientist in 2002. John earned his Masters of Social Services (MSS) from Bryn Mawr College School of Social Work and Social Research in 1993. He holds certifications in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy, and is trained in Motivational Interviewing. John was the Program Director of the Dual Diagnosis Unit, and later of the Outpatient Counseling Center at Hampton Behavioral Health Center. He has a private practice and is a consultant in organization development and training.

Dr. Breen joined the Family Medicine Residency Program in July 2009.  She is a graduate of University of North Dakota School of Medicine and did her first two years of residency in North Dakota before transferring to Underwood-Memorial Hospital to complete her training.  Prior to medical school Dr. Breen earned a master’s degree in biology from University of Texas, San Antonio.   She lives with her husband and three children.

Dr. Fisher, Associate Director, joined the Family Medicine Residency Program in 2003. She is a graduate of Jefferson Medical College and completed her residency at the West Jersey-Memorial Family Practice Residency at Virtua where she served as Chief Resident. Her interests include Geriatrics, Women’s Health and Outpatient Counseling. Prior to medical school, she enjoyed a career in music, performing with The Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia, as well as the Opera Company of Philadelphia and the Philly Pops.

Dr. Glass joined the Family Medicine Residency Program in July 2005. Dr. Glass is a graduate of Tulane University Medical School where she was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. She completed residency at University of South Alabama where she served as Chief Resident and earned the Mead Johnson Award for Graduate Education in Family Medicine. While repaying her National Health Service Corps scholarship in South Georgia, Dr. Glass was awarded the Parke-Davis Teacher Development Award for her teaching at the Southwest GA Family Medicine Residency. Prior to returning to her home state to join the faculty at Underwood, Dr. Glass was in private practice and then served as Associate Director at VCU-Riverside Family Medicine Residency in VA. She is Board Certified in Family Medicine.

Dr. Hamilton is also new to the faculty at the Family Medicine Residency Program, effective July 2005. He previously served as Associate Director at Blackstone Family Practice Residency in Virginia. Dr. Hamilton graduated from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, and completed residency at Franklin Square Residency Program in Baltimore, Maryland, where is also served as Chief Resident. He completed his undergraduate studies at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina. Dr. Hamilton completed a Fellowship in Faculty Development from the University of Cincinnati.

Dr. Herman is Board Certified in Family Medicine. He brings a wealth of medical experience to the office. Dr. Herman is a graduate of Jefferson Medical College, completed his residency at Silas B. Hayes Army Community Hospital in California and then served ten years active duty in the United States Army, most recently at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. He provides school physician services to several local school districts in Gloucester County. Dr. Herman is also certified as a Medical Review Officer.

Dr. Roehl graduated from the Medical College of Pennsylvania-Hahnemann School of Medicine and joined the Underwood-Memorial Hospital Family Practice Residency program in July of 2001. Dr. Roehl was named 2004 Resident of the Year by the New Jersey Academy of Family Physicians. Dr. Roehl completed a Fellowship in geriatrics at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia. Prior to attending medical school Dr. Roehl earned an MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and earned her undergraduate degree in psychology and social welfare from the University of California at Berkeley.

Dr. VanDerwerken graduated from Jefferson Medical College and completed her residency at Underwood-Memorial Hospital where she served as Chief Resident. After several years in private practice, she returned to our program as the Assistant Director in 1994. Dr. VanDerwerken has special interests in evidence-based medicine, women’s health, the management of chronic illness and psychosocial aspects of family medicine. Dr.VanDerwerken is board certified in both Family Practice and Adolescent Medicine and is also trained in the facilitation of Balint Groups.
