Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Public Relations and Community Outreach

As a leading provider of advanced emergency care in the South Jersey region, Underwood-Memorial Hospital’s Mobile Intensive Care Unit provides training and support for a variety of community groups.   The EMS team attends numerous events sponsored by local non-profit agencies and civic organizations such as Rotary Club meetings, schools, churches and community health fairs.  The Team provides demonstrations and education regarding the events which occur when a call is placed to 9-1-1.  It also explains the difference between EMTs and paramedics, and how to help responders.  Information is also provided to high school students about the emergency medical services in the area, focusing on job roles for paramedics, training requirements, EMS career opportunities as well as personal safety issues such as wearing seat belts and bike helmets.

Underwood-Memorial Hospital’s Mobile Intensive Care Unit is a member of the Camden, Burlington and Gloucester Counties National SAFE KIDS program and has three nationally certified child passenger safety (CPS) technicians who provide guidance and education at child safety seat “check-up” events. These CPS technicians work with the Safe Kids technicians in the area to provide this service to communities at no cost. Current programs also include classes on bike helmet safety, summer safety, home safety and the FATAL (Facts About Traffic Accident Loss) program presented in local high schools. These technicians are also members of the Highway Traffic Task Force units of Cumberland and Gloucester Counties.
