Whale and Help Labels, Labels for Life
The UMH Auxilians pioneered the Whale/Help labels in New Jersey modeled after one used in New York State. The WHALE (We Have a Little Emergency) packets include stickers that are placed on baby/child car seats. These stickers will, in case of an accident, provide identification and emergency information. The HELP (Helmet Emergency Label Program) stickers are also used on bike helmets to do basically the same. The Labels for Life is a zipper-pull, which stores emergency contact information and can be attached to shoelaces, bicycles, etc., in addition to zippers. It is a New Jersey Hospital Association (NJHA) initiative, originally started to assist those with Alzheimer’s. However, anyone who can not easily carry identification (bicyclists, joggers, etc.) can use them. Most requests for information on these programs come from emergency response organizations, school groups, and civic organizations. Inquiries may be directed to the hospital’s Volunteer Office.
