Mobile Intensive Care Unit - MICU
Working in close association with ambulance and rescue squads throughout
Gloucester County and parts of Salem and Cumberland counties is the
UMH Mobile Intensive Care Unit –MICU.
Our highly skilled paramedic teams are called upon by county 9-1-1
dispatchers based upon an established criteria when a serious or
life threatening emergency is reported. Because of their advanced
education and training in emergency care, our MICU paramedics are
able to help assess and stabilize the patient’s condition while
administering advanced pre-hospital care on scene or en route to
the hospital.
Our specially equipped vehicles and extensively trained emergency
medical teams are located throughout the tri-county region in strategic
locations to afford improved accessibility and minimum response times.
Linked by electronic means to physicians in the hospital emergency
department, the MICU provides highly qualified and compassionate
advanced life support to accident and trauma victims and seriously
ill patients. During 2004, our units were dispatched approximately
24,000 times and 10,684 patients were assisted and treated by Underwood-Memorial’s
Mobile Intensive Care Unit.
